Week 98 - Wormed Again!

Hola,

This week was definitely a weird one. For starters it went by even faster than any other week during my mission On top of that I got super sick on Saturday with super strong stomach pains, which is normal for me since getting sick here isn’t an unusual thing but then it just started getting even worse. I don´t really want to go into details but I will just say that a worm came out of my body and I went to the hospital again and am being treated for Parasites again! They aren´t exactly sure which type of parasite worms I have so they gave me several different types of medicine to take, hoping that whatever type it is, it will be killed by the medicine. I have gotten sick more times than I can count during the mission, but this time has to be not only the most unusual but also the most painful sickness that I have had. Luckily I am starting to feel better and I just hope that the medications I am taking can continue to work the way that they are supposed to and I can get whatever type of parasite I have inside my body out as soon as possible!

Besides the parasites another very strange experience that happened to me occurred when we were out in the street looking for people to teach. A strange woman from Guayaquil, Ecuador came up to me and grabbed my hand and started saying weird things in a different language mixed with Spanish. It was really weird and I pulled my hand away as quickly as I could because there is huge problem down here with Satanic worshipers doing witchcraft stuff. It may sound strange but it is true. Even though it was a weird/sketchy situation I couldn’t help but laugh afterwards because one of the things that the lady said was “And you will remember me when you are in the shower putting shampoo in your hair.” It was super weird in the moment to hear but the next day when I was showering I was laughing pretty hard as I washed my hair with shampoo.

Other than the very strange lady we had a week full of a lot of success her in the work. Our new investigator Karina is progressing super well. She came to Church again and has accepted the invitation to be baptized. We only need to teach her the commandments and have her committed to keeping them for her to receive a baptismal interview and then be baptized. Even though we have been teaching her for such a short time, I know that she truly was prepared by our Heavenly Father to receive the gospel at this point in her life. The only thing we are worried about is her family owns some land where they grow coco beans (to make chocolate) and where they also grow coffee beans. We are just hoping and praying that she will accept to live the Word of Wisdom when we teach her it this week.

This week we also had our activity “Esto es Guerra Familia” (This is war families). It was a huge success! We had more members present than any other activity we have ever had before. Not only that, we had 5 investigators present and they all had a great time and got to know the members better. Overall the Members had a great time and it was great to see the Ward Members smiling and having a great time together.

In closing this week, I just want to share how grateful I am to have Spirit with me each and every day as a missionary. The way that it leads and guides us each and every day is something that is truly a miracle in itself. I do not know where I would be and I am so grateful to have it in my life. It is something so very important for each of us as members of the Church to consistently have it in order to be able to avoid the many, many temptations in today’s world. I love you all and pray you have a great week!

Love,

Elder Fawcett
